Covey Rise Farms is located near Husser, Louisiana, in Tangipahoa Parish and is part of Covey Rise Lodge. We began growing vegetables on ten-acres in 2009 and have since expanded to 50-acres. Covey Rise Farms grows more than 35 types of vegetables, which are enjoyed at 60 of New Orleans’ finest restaurants, 30 of Houston’s, and across the Gulf Coast at-large. Louisiana residents can also join our Local Produce Club with crops orchestrated by a seasoned farmer, who has impressive credentials and even more impressive methods.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Local Produce Club/CSA?

At its core, our Local Produce Club is a Community Supported Agriculture initiative, commonly called a CSA. A CSA is nothing more than a produce subscription service and creates a means for individuals to establish a relationship with local farms.

How does the Local Produce Club/CSA work?

Individuals can sign-up to receive a weekly sack of produce—though we do ask members to commit for an entire season. Our season runs during the peak of production, or twelve weeks in the spring/summer, beginning in April, and twelve weeks in the fall/winter around mid-September. Pick-up runs like clockwork each week, and members can find their orders at Simplee Gourmet in Covington on Wednesday and in New Orleans on Thursday.

How much produce will I receive weekly?

Members receive six to eight items per week. We find it’s the perfect amount for most households to utilize fully and not produce waste. We aim to be generous, but not to overwhelm our patrons with too much product.

What would a sample share include?

Shares change according to the season, which spans both cool and warm weather crops. An example share includes lettuce mix, rainbow chard, potatoes, string beans, summer squash, cucumbers, bell peppers & parsley.

How does the share pickup work?

At the beginning of the season, you will receive a reusable Covey Rise Farms sack that we kindly request you bring each week. The pick-up locations function a bit differently, however. In Covington, the vegetables will be delivered in bins, and you will be responsible for filling your personal sack accordingly. In New Orleans, your bags of produce are all pre-packaged and ready-to-go.

Can I split my share?

Yes, you can split your share. However, it is up to you to determine how pick-up and division of the product will be orchestrated each week.

How much does a share cost weekly?

It costs $396.00 for each 12-week season.

How do I pay for my share?

You can purchase a share by clicking on the Local Produce Club icon and signing up for the season. You may pay through PayPal or by check. Please mail the check to the following:

Covey Rise Farms, LLC
P.O. Box 40
Husser, LA 70442

What happens if I cannot pick up my share?

You are welcome to have a friend or family member enjoy your share of the harvest for that missed week. No need to let us know in advance—just send them to your designated pick-up location.

What are the benefits of eating local produce?

Eating locally reduces transportation-related environmental impacts and recirculates money into the local community. Not only does it reduce your carbon footprint, but the produce we grow is also generally heirloom varieties, picked vine-ripe and delivered super fresh. You can literally taste the difference!

Are my vegetables washed?

No. Your produce will come fresh from the field and will have to be washed prior to consuming. We suggest that you wash your vegetables immediately for maximum refrigerator life.
